Akabane Anko
赤羽あんこ 赤羽店
Located on the first floor of ecute Akabane, Akabane Anko is a takeout bakery serving its namesake specialty—crispy Danish pastry wrapped around bean paste from Oji Seiansho—alongside sweet pairings like whipped cream and cream cheese.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
Perched inside the ecute Akabane shopping concourse at JR Akabane Station, Akabane Anko is a dedicated takeout stop for freshly baked bean-paste pastries. The headliner here is the Akabane Anko pastry itself: an aromatic, buttery Danish shell crisply baked around smooth sweet bean paste. The filling comes courtesy of Oji Seiansho, a well-regarded local paste maker. Its refined, gently sweet tsubuan (chunky sweet bean paste) provides a rich contrast against the flaky, clean bite of the laminated crust.
Inside the display case, classic ogura (sweet azuki bean) and smooth koshi-an fillings sit side by side with Western-leaning variations. Popular combinations include Ogura & Whipped Cream for a mellow richness, Ogura & Cream Cheese for a hint of lactic acidity that cuts through the bean sweetness, and a silky Custard & Ogura blend. Other options balance Japanese and Western confectionery styles just as comfortably, from white bean paste accented with blueberry jam to chewy, mochi-textured doughnuts.
Thanks to its location right by the train concourse, the shop works well for a quick grab-and-go snack before boarding or during a transfer. Purchases double easily as casual afternoon teatime treats or simple souvenirs to bring home. With support for IC transit cards and various QR-code payment apps, it remains an easy sweet stop to keep in mind when passing through Akabane.
